ANDORRA - SURROUNDING AREA - ACTIVITIES
Although many people have heard of Andorra with its kilometres of tax-free shopping and its five ski resorts, very few have actually ventured further than Pas de la Casa or Andorra la Vella. Beyond, lies a different world still untouched by mass tourism and far away from the main shopping areas.
For those who get to know Andorra, its charm and appeal ensure that they visit time and again, and some eventually decide to live there. Andorra is a tiny Principality, a mere 188 square miles in area, nestling high in the eastern Pyrenees and bordered by France to the north and Spain to the south. Said to have been founded by the Emperor Charlemagne in 784, Andorra became a Co-Principality in 1278 under the protection of both bordering countries, and enjoys the distinction of having had no war for over 700 years.
Arinsal, at an altitude of 1500 metres, is located in one of Anndorra's prettiest and most tranquil valleys, surrounded by mountains rising up to 3000 metres.
Approximately 10 million tourists visit Andorra throughout the year, and they come for varying reasons. Whatever season you choose to visit Andorra, the Principality always has something to offer, some of which are listed above.
