FLORA - FAUNA (all year depending on conditions)

The Pyrenees abound with wild flowers; from spring until high summer the fields and hillsides are ablaze with exotic and unusual species, including lilies, orchids, anemones, gentians, narcissi, wild strawberries and raspberries. For the nature enthusiast, chamois, wild boar, eagles, black cock and ptarmigan may be glimpsed on occasion in the higher and more remote parts of the country. In September a very short hunting season opens, but nowadays most game is fully protected. A considerable variety of migratory birds can be seen passing through Andorra in the summer months, including some colourful and unusual specimens like the hoopoe. Some parts of the Principality teem with many varieties of butterflies at certain times of the year.
